What is 196 light infantry brigade?

196 Light Infantry Brigade is a mechanized infantry brigade of the Indian Army. It was raised on 15 January 1986 under the command of Brigadier PS Bhalla. The brigade is based in Pathankot, Punjab and consists of three mechanized infantry battalions, one artillery regiment, and one engineering regiment.

The brigade has participated in several operations, including Operation Rakshak in Jammu and Kashmir, Operation Vijay in Kargil, and Operation Parakram after the 2001 Parliament attack. In 2008, the brigade was deployed in Delhi to control the riots that had broken out in the city.
